Clients often ask us which is better: WordPress or a custom website. The honest answer is that neither is better in general. Each one is the right tool for a different job.
Choose WordPress when
- You want to edit things yourself. Pages, blog posts, photos and prices. WordPress gives you an admin panel that works like editing a document.
- You'll publish often. A blog, news, a portfolio that grows every month.
- You want a store you manage yourself. WooCommerce handles products, stock and orders well.
- Budget and time are tight. A good WordPress site can be ready in one to two weeks.
The catch: WordPress needs care. The core, theme and plugins need updates, and a site with too many plugins gets slow and becomes a target for hackers. Budget for a care plan or do the updates yourself every month.
Choose a custom website when
- Speed matters a lot. A hand-built site has no extra code, so it loads fast even on weak mobile data.
- The site does something unusual. Calculators, bookings with your own rules, customer accounts, a dashboard.
- It has to connect to an app. If you have, or plan, an Android or Windows app, a custom backend can serve both.
- You rarely change the content. Most business sites change a few times a year. A care plan covers those edits.
The questions that decide it
- Who will update the website, and how often?
- Does it only show information, or does it need logins, payments or calculations?
- Will you add an app later?
- What's your budget for the first year, including hosting and care?
If the answers are "me, every week", "just information", "no" and "tight", go with WordPress. If the site has to work like software, go custom.
